FAQ

What is Karate?

Karate is a martial art that originated in Okinawa, Japan, and has since spread around the world. Karate involves a combination of strikes, kicks, blocks, and throws, as well as training in self-defense techniques and mental discipline.

Karate is a form of unarmed combat and emphasizes striking techniques, including punches, kicks, and knee and elbow strikes. It also includes grappling and joint-locking techniques, but these are typically secondary to the striking techniques. Karate training involves rigorous physical conditioning, as well as the development of mental focus, discipline, and self-control.

There are many different styles of karate, each with its own techniques and training methods. Some of the most popular styles include Shotokan, Goju-ryu, Wado-ryu, and Shito-ryu. Each style emphasizes different aspects of karate training, such as speed, power, agility, or balance.

Karate can be practiced for self-defense, physical fitness, or competition, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. Karate training can also help to develop confidence, self-esteem, and respect for oneself and others.

Kenpo Karate emphasizes a combination of striking techniques, including punches, kicks, knee strikes, and elbow strikes, as well as joint locks, throws, and grappling techniques. It also includes training in self-defense techniques, sparring, and kata, or prearranged patterns of movements.

One of the unique aspects of Kenpo Karate is its emphasis on practical self-defense techniques that can be used in real-world situations.

How often do you hold classes and how long do they last?

Our classes range from 45 to 90 minutes. This is based on a few factors: a realistic schedule, age, and skill level. We typically have kids start in the 45 minute range and build up their tolerance to taking in more curriculum, discipline, and endurance to handle longer classes.

Adult beginners are also 45 minutes, but only during the introductory phase. After that, it’s the full 90 minutes.
